Career breakthrough

In 2025, I truly cannot put into words what God has done for me personally in relation to my career and where I now stand. As Psalm 126:3 reminds us, “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.”

At the start of the year, I felt lost and uncertain about my direction. I felt as though I had reached an impasse in my career, unsure of what my next step would be or even if there was a next step. Yet, even in that uncertainty, God was present, because Proverbs 16:9 tells us, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”

My prayer at the beginning of 2025 was simple: “God, take me wherever You want me to be.”

At work, I felt undervalued. I had been overlooked for the Headteacher position, and that moment caused me to question my worth, my capability, and even God’s plan for my life. I wondered if I was truly good enough or if I would ever step into what I felt called to. In that season, God gently reminded me of Isaiah 55:8–9, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declaring that His plan was higher than what I could see or understand.

At the same time, I was undertaking a qualification that would formally recognise the training and study required to become a Headteacher while still working full-time. Sitting in those rooms, surrounded by others, I often questioned whether I belonged there. I compared myself to others and felt I lacked the confidence, knowledge, and voice to speak up, let alone imagine myself running a school in the future. Yet God’s Word declares in 2 Corinthians 12:9, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” What I saw as weakness, God was using as preparation.

What I did not know at the time was that God was quietly moving me from the back of the crowd to the front. Through others, He began to affirm that although I did not yet hold the title of Headteacher, I was already a leader. God showed me that leadership is not granted by position but revealed through character and calling. As Proverbs 18:16 says, “A gift opens the way and brings the giver into the presence of the great.” My gift was making room for me long before my title did.

One of my prayers for 2025 was for progression. I assumed that progression meant leaving my school to become a Headteacher elsewhere. But God said, “No.” He showed me that movement does not always mean relocation and sometimes it means elevation from within. As Psalm 75:6–7 reminds us, “No one from the east or the west or from the desert can exalt themselves. It is God who judges: He brings one down, He exalts another.”

That year, I was promoted to Deputy Headteacher, entrusted with greater responsibility, authority, and influence.

But God did not stop there. He expanded my territory beyond the walls of my school. He moved me into wider professional networks, made my name known beyond my immediate context, and opened doors for me to deliver talks and host seminars. Just as Habakkuk 2:3 says, “Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.” What God promised arrived in His perfect timing.

When I thought God had finished all He was going to do for me in December, I received my final grade for my qualification. I passed. The feedback I received felt like a direct affirmation from God—confirming that I demonstrated the qualities of someone ready to lead. It echoed Romans 8:30, “Those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified.”

This testimony is not about titles, positions, or status. It is about identity and obedience. It is about knowing that whatever God has called you to be, you already are—even if the world has not yet recognised it. 1 Samuel 16:7 reminds us, “The Lord does not look at the things people look at… the Lord looks at the heart.” Even when you doubt whether you deserve to be in the room, God will always show you why you are there and will give you everything you need not only to be in the room, but to be seen and heard in it.

My testimony is this: through every doubt, delay, and disappointment, God had a plan. And when I questioned that plan, He gently said, “Son, lean on Me.” As Proverbs 3:5–6 declares, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

I thank God for my 2025, and I am trusting Him fully for my 2026, knowing as Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you… plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
