Supernatural healing

Thus far in my time travelling and ministering in different parts of the world, there are two significant encounters with the Lord that completely changed my views on the Kingdom of God.

The Bible is filled with countless accounts of amazing, supernatural things the Lord did. To sceptics outside the faith, these are mere fallacies; stories formulated to beguile millions into an archaic, fanciful belief. Even within the wider Christian community some believe these supernatural workings of God to be something of the past which, for whatever reason, are no longer done by God.

Although I believed (or perhaps hoped) that such things were still possible, whether I actually had faith that they could and would still happen was to be tested.

England 2015

My local church was hosting a rival conference in Walthamstow. During this conference there was such a strong atmosphere of glory and joy. At one point, oil began to stream supernaturally from the four internal corners of the main hall and other areas. I knew this must have been the supernatural working of the Lord as at the time I served in the church’s maintenance department and had previously checked and cleaned the premises myself just hours before. But that’s the focus of another anecdote.

On this occasion, a friend of mine’s mother was in attendance. She had been diagnosed with cancer and was due for some exploratory procedures in the coming weeks. During the conference, particularly at a point of deep worship, she began coughing strongly, almost chocking. She rushed to the lavatory where she eventually vomited. I remember her recalling that during the worship, she felt the presence of God and when she vomited, she felt something internal leaving her.

A few weeks later she attended one of the church’s services to testify that during her exploratory procedures the doctors could no longer find any traces of cancer within. It was as though it had just disappeared.

She was convinced that this was linked to her experience at the conference. I agree.

Nigeria 2016

My spiritual mentor had invited myself and my brother-in-Christ to join her on one of her missionary trips to Abuja, Nigeria. We ministered in worship, in word and in prayer over several days in different locations and throughout our time there, we witnessed countless miracles from healing of various physical pains, to oil supernaturally appearing in people's palms and even spiritual deliverance. None of this was new to me.

During one service session, my mentor called myself and the brother to the stage to prophesy. As I stood on the stage I heard the Lord whisper to me that He will heal someone in the crowd of blindness. Hesitantly, I shared this with the congregation and requested whether there were any blind among them. Slowly, a middle-aged woman was assisted forward. She stood before me, along with her aid, waiting for a miracle. I remember looking deep into her eyes; her pupils were visibly cloudy and her gaze skewed. To be sincere, I believed God can heal blindness, I believed I truly heard Him speak, but a part of me lacked faith whether it will actually happen in this instance. So I prayed simply along these lines, “Lord, I know that you love this woman and that your desire is for her to be healed. There is no sickness in heaven, so I ask that you show her your love for her and cause the atmosphere of heaven to come upon her now.” I then urged her aid to ask her if her sight had been healed. To which the woman replied “slightly. I can see outlines of things in one eye but nothing in the other". I asked her to quantify the improvement with a percentage. She replied with a figure below 50%. This encouraged me but I felt there was more, so I said, “the Lord is a God of wholeness, so let us pray again until you are fully healed".

I began to pray a second time, this time thanking God for the improvement thus far and requesting more. I continued to pray and question the woman a further three times until her sight had been healed over 75%. By this point the woman had become very teary, overwhelmed by what she was experiencing. Throughout, her aid and others tested her sight by quizzing her on what she saw. Her gazed was no longer skewed and her pupils were almost as clear as any average seeing individual’s.

These experiences brought my expectations of the healing ministry into a whole new dimension. A dimension beyond just headaches and body sores. After all, God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. He has not weakened in power nor in love towards us so why should we expect any less than what is written in the Holy Book?
